The tablet device gives us an additional means of capturing hand written information electronically.
Paper is the traditional and very effective way of capturing hand written information. However as technology evolves other devices are emulating the hand writing process. Forms can now be completed on tablet devices without the need for the tablet to be online while the form is being filled in. HWR takes place on the device immediately, which speeds up the whole data validation process. Using your finger or a stylus, you can write, draw, or use the standard keyboard on the tablet to input data. The same form design and processing used for the digital pen forms can be now be used with the tablet.
When a user opens a form on the tablet, they can complete the form offline. When they connect to the backend server, the forms are automatically synchronized with the server and uploaded. The connection can be via W-FI if available through a 3/4G connection.
The tablet application supports the upload of photos, voice memos and GPS locations. Photos and voice memos are available in the backend after submission while the GPS coordinates are populated into the data export file.
The application is currently supported on standard and mini IPAD IOS 8, 9 and 10 tablets and on a range of 10 Inch Samsung Android 4.X tablets. Small tablets can be used depending upon the form workflow and user experience with this smaller form factor.
